A seaming pitch with a pessimistic forecast saw an unchanged Lancashire win the toss and bat. An record breaking opening stand of 397 by the patient Hameed (164) and Jennings (217) put Lancashire in the driving seat. This was the highest opening partnership v Notts as well as the highest partnership for any wicket for Lancashire and the highest partnership for Trent Bridge. From there Lancashire pushed on to 546-d with Livingston hitting a quickfire 80 from 85 balls, however Lancashire lost 7 of these wickets for 120 runs as the match entered the 2nd day where the rain managed to hold off.
Nottinghamshire were put in with just 90 minutes of day 2 remaining. Anderson (4-53) struck in the first over and 2 further wickets fell to leave Notts 87-3 at the close. Showers hit in the afternoon on day three and aside from some dogged resistance from Root (73) & Patel (36) wickets fell regularly thanks to Parkinson (4-50) to give Notts 232ao some 165 runs short of the follow on.
2nd time around Lancashire flooded the wicket with close catchers Nottinghamshire ended day 3 still 253 adrift and 61-2. Parkinson proved expensive but Lancashire persisted with an attacking intent into the 4th day. Taylor (121) did his best to play sensibly but continued to lose partners at the other end. With just 90 minutes left, Taylor under edged behind and then two balls later Footit was bowled leaving Lilley with 3-46.
Lancashire are now the only team in Division 1 unbeaten and top the table by 8 points from current champions Essex.
Lancashire (22 points) bt Nottinghamshire (1 point) by an Innings and 55 runs. MOTM: Jennings 217.
