Lancashire moved into their first home fixture of the season with Liam Livingstone still 7 days unfit with a back injury...
An initially impotent bowling attack saw Surrey rack up 396 largely thanks to Elgar (158) carrying his bat. Mennie was dropped and debut handed to right arm fast bowler Winters from the Youth setup. Pope (89) helped put on 148 for the 5th Wicket but then 5 wickets fell for 72 thanks to Parkinson (5-81) and Winters (2-71).
In reply Lancashire got off to a bad start slipping to 11-2 before Chandapaul (247) showed his true class backed up first by the impressive youth prospect Marsh with a run a ball 55 and then a stand of 309 for the 4th wicket with Croft (144) - a record for Lancashire against Surrey for the 4th Wicket (previously 181)
Moving towards the end of the 3rd day, Vilas (81*) joined Chanderpaul for a stand of 158 to put the game out of Surrey's reach.
With a lead of around 160 Lancashire went on the attack in the 3rd day, Onions (3-36) took out the top order and Anderson (2-36) ably supported but there was little else. Parkinson (1-47) removed the stubborn Burns for 87 but Surrey moved into a narrow lead and with 4 wickets still to get the game was drawn.
Lancashire slip to 2nd now 9 points adrift of Essex and only 2 points ahead of Somerset who have a game in hand... whilst Surrey are rooted to the foot of Division 1 with no win in their first 2 games.
Surrey (10pts) drew with Lancashire (10pts). MOTM Chanderpaul for his 247.
