An unchanged Lancashire line up faced a Derbyshire side with a strong top order on a good looking pitch at the County ground. With Lancashire hoping to apply some consistency to their performances, they lost the toss and were asked to bowl.
Derbyshire negotiated the first 10 overs making 52-1 without any major scares as the Lancashire bowlers attacked the stumps. The in form ben slater continued to do well, bringing up a 50 for the home side as they sought to press home their good start. Lancashire turned to the spin duo of Parry and part timer Livingstone, the latter breaking a 144 run stand between Slater (106) & Madsen (69). As the pace bowlers returned, the Derbyshire line up continued to throw caution to the wind. Brodrick smashed 102 from only 47 balls to propel Derby into a dominant position. Mennie ended with an embarrassing 2-90 and Bohannon 2-88. and Derbyshire ended their innings on 336-6.
With a huge target to chase, Lancashire began in positive fashion hammering 61 from the first 6 overs, before the loss of Brown (34 off 17). Lancashire continued to press, reaching 100 off 10 overs without further casualty. Scotlands Sharif being particularly expensive with 64 coming from his first 6 overs. Oilver bowled the energetic Jones (33) and Sharif accounted for newcomer Marsh (8) after conceeding an enormous six over cover. Alex Davies once again played with fluency, bringing up his 50 off just 35 balls with three maximums but the rate required remained at almost a run a ball.
When Livingstone (2) was bowled soon after arriving at the crease the chase looked in doubt for the away side. After a period of consolidation from Vilas and Davies they looked to press the accelerator once again but a quick single from Davies ended in disaster as he ran out Vilas for 17. All hopes rested on the tiny yet tenatious figure at the top of the order, but he was undone by his own poor judgement between the wickets, this time running himself out for 85 (76 balls).
The chase still required 153 with only 4 wickets remaining.
It proved too much for the lower order. Despite a few blows from Clark and Mennie the result became inevitable. The innings ended with a tame fend to first slip and Lancashire were all out for 216.
