Big changes for Lancashire with the return of key players for the roses clash. Jennings returned at the top of the order to replace Brown, Buttler slipped into the middle order to replace Marsh whilst in the bowling line up Anderson came in for his first one day match of the season whilst Lancashire swapped pace for spin with Liley and Parkinson coming in for Bailey and Mennie.
Lancashire opted to get runs on the board and once again intended to start positively. This wasn't the case as Davies fell in the first 4 overs for a rare duck. Jennings was unlucky to be trapped on the crease for 26 and then Buttler followed to give O'Brien his 3rd LBW of the innings and leave Lancashire in disarray at 49-3. Livingstone and Jones put together a 50 partnership for the 4th wicket to bring some stability. As Lancashire tried to maintain the rate Jones played well for his 74 bowled eventually by Plunkett but Dane Vilas continued to push the rate for his 58. With 15 overs left Lancashire had limped to 203-7 and the tail was exposed. The rest of the wickets fell cheaply and Lancashire will be disappointed to not have lasted the overs - all out for 215.
Yorkshire's innings passed without incident until on 92 Pujara skied Parkinson to Jennings at mid off and then Bairstow did the same to leave Yorkshire on 101-2. Anderson (1-29) bowled full, straight and economically whilst the spinners continued to take pace off the ball at the other end. With 10 overs left and 63 needed Yorkshire were faltering on 153-5 thanks to regular strikes from all three spinners. Joe root (50) continued to take advantage of anything loose from the attack before running himself out needlessly at the start of Jenning's (0-38) 7th over.
The match was right down to the wire and Lancashire turned to young leg spinner Parkinson (3-26) to bowl the 47th over. It proved to be inspired as he accounted for Adil Rashid (8) and the dangerous David Willey (7). With 18 still needed Clark (2-32) stepped up to trap Brooks (4) infront of middle ending Yorkshire's innings on 199 and give Lancashire an overdue and much needed victory.
Lancashire bt Yorkshire by 16 runs. MOTM Vilas (58)
